<h3>The opportunity</h3>
For over a century, the Weybridge site has been a leading animal health science facility in the UK. It is home to the Animal and Plant Health Agency’s (APHA) main laboratory and headquarters. However, the Weybridge facilities now need substantial updates to meet today’s standards and prepare for the future. Investing in Weybridge is crucial for maintaining the UK’s capacity to protect animal health and prevent zoonotic diseases. 
Key features of the facility:<ul><li>In vitro research labs at containment levels 2 and 3</li><li>In vivo suites supporting a range of research programs at various containment levels</li><li>Specialised post-mortem and cold storage areas</li><li>Staff amenities, including accommodation, changing areas, and office spaces</li><li>Complex engineering services, such as an effluent treatment plant and a clinical waste incinerator</li></ul>

<h3>Our approach</h3>
Lexica is a healthcare and life sciences consultancy, helping organisations in the UK and globally with service planning, delivery, and improvement.
We have worked with the Department for Environment, Food &amp; Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and APHA since 2018. In 2020, we led a study to assess space requirements for the project, collaborating with APHA and technical partners. Our team achieved a 20% reduction in required space, helping make the project more efficient without affecting science capabilities.
As part of the Program Management Office, Lexica also contributed to developing the Programme Business Case (PBC) in 2021. This involved a feasibility study that explored flexible technical options. We then assessed various configurations to determine if the Science Hub should be one or multiple buildings, considering design and procurement options. Through an evaluation process, we selected the best layout to meet business goals and gained PBC approval.

<h3>Our impact </h3>
Our Project and Programme Management teams collaborated with the client across Capital, Transformation, and Integrated Programme Management Offices (IPMOs). Our responsibilities included:<ul><li dir="ltr">Developing a Master Schedule and setting a functional critical path to guide planning.</li><li dir="ltr">Providing strategic planning, standardising best practices, and consolidating processes for effective project delivery.</li><li dir="ltr">Leading monthly program reporting and organising key program meetings.</li></ul>
Lexica also manages monthly governance for Capital, Integration, and Programme Boards. We coordinate all meetings, prepare agendas and documents, support reporting, and maintain an approved record system.
